Clients who choose the Medical Weight Management Center of Delaware reap the benefits of our three-phase process:
1) Active Weight Loss
2) Transition
3) Weight Maintenance
During the active weight loss phase, which typically lasts from 8 to 12 weeks and includes weekly one-on-one meetings with Dr. Rothbart or one of the Center’s other physicians, we focus on establishing and implementing a tailored eating plan that meets your nutritional needs while identifying and eliminating unnecessary and nutritionally “empty” calories. As we jumpstart your weight loss journey, the majority of your calories will come from specially-formulated meal-replacement foods including bars, shakes, puddings, smoothies, soups, and complete entrées, with the remainder coming from foods available for purchase at your local supermarket.
To maximize convenience, we offer many of the nutritional meals you will use during this first phase for sale here in our offices.
Combining your eating plan with a tailored exercise programs, the active weight loss phase positions you for long-term weight-loss success.
The approximately 4- to 6-week transitional phase helps you begin to streamline traditional foods back into your diet while continuing your safe and controlled weight loss. At bi-weekly meetings with Dr. Rothbart, we emphasize developing a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, lean meats, fowl, and fish, while continuing to use select meal-replacement nutritionals as a supplement to these foods.
Once you have reached your target weight, the weight management phase begins. Unlike the first two phases, this third phase is actually a lifelong lifestyle. Yet, instead of focusing on “restrictive” eating, by this time you have learned to select healthy foods, use portion control to enjoy almost any food in moderation, and integrate physical exercise as part of your daily activities. Even during this final phase, however, you are not alone, as Dr. Rothbart remains available for periodic consultations and “check-ins” to support you in your new lifestyle.
